International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children Privacy Policy
LAST REVISED:
Please carefully read the Privacy Policy (“Policy”) of the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (“ICMEC”) before using ICMEC’s websites (the “Websites”).
By using the Websites you agree to be bound by the Policy.
If you do not agree with the Policy, do not use the Websites.
The Policy applies exclusively to your access to and use of the Websites, including, but not limited to, www.icmec.org and www.internationalmissingchild.org.
The Policy forms a binding agreement between you and ICMEC. You also agree to be bound by any additional terms that may be posted regarding individuals sections of the Websites.
By using the Websites, you agree that (1) all information you submit, if any, is both truthful and accurate; and (2) your use of the Websites does not violate any applicable law or regulation.
Please review ICMEC’s Terms of Use, which also apply to your use of the Websites. The Policy is incorporated by reference into ICMEC’s Terms of Use.
ICMEC reserves the right to modify the Policy, or any other policies/terms/conditions, relating to the Websites, at any time and in its sole discretion. Modifications will be effective immediately upon posting on the Websites. Your continued use of the Websites after the posting of modifications to the Policy will constitute your acceptance of such revisions. You should review the Policy, and any other applicable policies/terms/conditions, from time to time to understand the terms and conditions that govern your use of the Websites. If you do not agree to the revised Policy, you must stop using the Websites.
Maintaining the privacy of your personal information is of the utmost important to ICMEC. The Policy describes how ICMEC collects and maintains all personally-identifiable information from the Websites. By visiting the Websites, you consent to the practices described in the Policy. The Policy does not apply to any third-party websites, and third-party websites may have their own privacy policies. ICMEC assumes no liability for how third parties may collect and/or use your personal information.
Information ICMEC Collects
You may provide certain personally-identifiable information, including, but not limited to, your name, street address, e-mail address, telephone number, and payment information (when making online donations), to ICMEC when visiting the Websites. The purpose of collecting such information is to: respond to specific questions; honor requests for brochures, newsletters, or other publications; or provide users with information about missing children. ICMEC may use your personal information to periodically communicate with you concerning ICMEC issues, upcoming events, etc. ICMEC also collects your personal information if you submit information about a missing or exploited child through the Websites.
ICMEC also may collect Internet Protocol (IP) addresses and domain names, in order to track the number and frequency of visits ICMEC receives to certain pages of the Websites. ICMEC also may identify the external website link that brought you to the Websites. However, ICMEC does not associate this technical data with any personally-identifiable information in ICMEC’s databases unless a security intrusion or other unlawful activity is detected on the Websites.
Information ICMEC Shares with Third Parties
If you use the Websites to make a report about a missing or exploited child and, in doing so, submit personally-identifiable information, then ICMEC will forward such information to the appropriate law-enforcement agencies or designated non-governmental organizations for review.
If you submit credit-card information on the Websites, ICMEC will forward that information to a service that processes the payment/donation.
From time to time, ICMEC supplies third-party vendors with personal information about Website visitors who wish to receive information from ICMEC. Such vendors may include, for example, organizations that process mailings for ICMEC. Those vendors have entered non-disclosure agreements with us so that personal information is used only to respond to the visitors’ requests and is not shared with any other entity or individual.
Occasionally ICMEC will share “aggregate information” about Website visitors with certain third parties. Aggregate information shows visitor activity as a whole, but does not identify any individual user.
Except as described in this section, ICMEC will not sell, rent, share, or otherwise disclose your personal information to any third party for any reason.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files that are sent to your browser from a web server and are stored on your computer’s hard drive. When you return to that website, the cookie will tell the website that you have been there before. The website can then offer you products or ads that are tailored to your interests. By using cookies, information may be collected without your express knowledge.
ICMEC uses cookies to increase the efficiency of certain searches you may conduct on the Websites. You can refuse to accept cookies. Refusal to accept cookies will not prevent use of the Websites, but some portions of the Websites may not function properly without cookies.
Security
ICMEC maintains control of any names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, or e-mail addresses submitted by users of the Websites. Access to submitted names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, or e-mail addresses and personally-identifiable information is restricted to ICMEC employees and authorized third-party service providers who process donation payments. ICMEC and its authorized third-party service providers comply with PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards), adopted by the major credit card and financial companies to secure personally-identifiable information. The PCI DSS protocols employed by ICMEC and its authorized third-party service providers include, but are not limited to: establishing appropriate technical, physical and organizational security procedures to protect personally-identifiable information against loss, theft, unauthorized use, disclosure, or modification; limited access to storage areas and locked files; use and regular update of anti-virus software on all systems commonly affected by malware; and the use of encryption, secure servers and unique computer workstation identification and passwords. OCMEC monitors these procedures regularly and when needed to ensure their continued effectiveness.
Despite ICMEC’s best efforts to protect and secure your information, please be aware that no transmission over the Internet and no data storage method is 100% secure.
